What is the role of positive feedback, affirmation, recognition and validation in our workplaces, families and societies at large?
How do these behaviours make an impact? Dr. Martin Seligman, Author of Authentic Happiness spent years studying this topic. Initially he looked at 30 years of psychological research and found that there had be 45,000 studies on depression and illness and only 300 studies on joy, hope and happiness.
Over the years many people have developed ways of identifying strengths and teaching ways to provide recognition. In this course we will focus on Strength Finder developed by Don Clifton and Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Gary Chapman and Paul White. Other strength-based processes include the strategic planning process called SOAR (versus SWAT) and Appreciative Inquiry.
Putting what you learn today into practice will take effort and commitment. And yet it should be the easiest effort that you extend as you focus on the positive both in yourself and others.
